Puppy Love
I often cruise through iStockPhoto for ideas. I stumbled across GollyKim's excellent little dachshund the other day and immediately thought of my other half, whose birthday is the 26th. And, since the end of October is Birthday Season for me (my mom is the 20th, my sister is the 22nd, my aunt is the 24th and then other half is the 26th ... and I trail behind on the 4th), I thought I'd whip up my own birthday cards this year. But, instead of using GollyKim's image, I should draw something closer to our little Dappley-Scrappily. Yeah, I know. His name is Scraps. I have taken away his manhood by calling him Scrappily-Dappley. He'll live.
At any rate, GollyKim's doxie is a gorgeous chocolate and tan baby, but Scraps is a black and tan dapple. So, I got out my trusty new Ohto .3 pencil and began sketching out the character. Then I scanned in my drawing and re-created it in Adobe Illustrator. I transferred the vector drawing into Photoshop, added the dapples and the birthday text, and VOILA! Instant set of birthday cards for this season.
