I originally designed a variation of this site for the University
Writing Center at Notre Dame. That version also had an open windown
with various "files" which were roll-over buttons for
Writing Center Hours and the like. All of the icons on the page
(that design did not have the black and amber "screen"
off to the right), were simply colored versions of current Macintosh
OS icons. The students all loved the site. Unfortunately, the professor
who ran the Writing Center was also a Mac user and using this Mac
desktop design for the website confused him. He couldn't seem to
tell the difference between his desktop and the website and requested
another design. I loved the design so much, I couldn't let it go
completely dormant and used it for part of my site for a while.
