Ventriloquist
& Scarface

A mild-mannered little man, the Ventriloquist seems the harmless accountant type. However, his "partner," the mob boss-man known as Scarface will always run the show. Arnold never quite knows what to make of Scarface and their life of crime

I have wanted to make this figure for ages. The Ventriloquist has always interested me and when I went to finally make him, I noticed a few discrepencies in the Ventriloquist that I thought about and how he actually looks in the Adventures of Batman and Robin comic. First, I pictured him as relatively short, probably in keeping with his mild manner. I also see him as a little bit on the pudgy side. In keeping with these two ideas, the base for the Ventriloquist is actually a Dragonball Z Master Yoshi. The face has been *heavily* modified. Basically, I sliced his entire face off. Literally. With the sole excepting of his nose, everything else was taken off with an X-Acto, including the ears. What I discovered after taking the glasses off, the eyebrows and re-doing the mouth area to reflect the weak chin and smallish mouth, was that the ears were too low on the face. So, those were sliced off and moved up. The new glasses are made from cut plastic and Sculpey. The hair is also Sculpey. The bow tie and the lapels of the suit coat are also done in Sculpey. I cut a V into Master Yoshi's jacket to help define the suit coat and make room for his shirt and bow-tie. His right hand was sliced off and I inserted a piece of wire into the wrist. The hand could then be re-affixed or he could hold Scarface. Scarface himself is completed hand sculpted. His hat is removeable (since I often see it come off). At first I was going to articulate his arms and legs, but finally decided against it. His legs are largely non-functional in the cartoon anyway and I could never sculpt the hands well enough to hold his machine gun, so I just left well enough alone. |

Here's a shot of the duo from Batman & Robin Adventures
#7. Rick Burchett has the proportions of Scarface more puppet-like than
human-like, hence the really stubby legs and rather long arms.
