The Many Faces of Robin

The role of Batman's sidekick has had a lot of changes since Robin: the Boy Wonder was introduced as "the sensational character find of 1940. Dick Grayson, the original Robin, eventually grew up and went to college. He and Bruce found it difficult to relate to each other as adults and Dick finally "quit" his position as the Batman's sidekick to lead the Teen Titans. Eventually, he began developing his own unique style and abandoned the Robin costume to become Nightwing (a tip of the hat both to the Batman and to Superman, another mentor for a younger Dick).
Jason Todd, a street kid who'd lost his parents, was the next to don the Robin costume. Bruce adopted the boy and began taking him out to fight crime. Jason wasn't as stable as Dick, however, and certainly wasn't as mature as Dick had been and the Batman began to have real problems with controlling the young man, culminating in Jason's haring off across the world to track down his mother. The Joker killed him and Bruce was completely devastated.
The current boy to play Robin is Tim Drake. Supposedly, Tim was at the circus when Dick lost his parents and the entire event: the young star of the circus, the death of that boy's parents and the appearance of the Batman, all contributed to Tim's intense interest in both Dick Grayson (and Bruce Wayne for taking in Dick as his ward) and in the Batman (for swooping down in an attempt to catch the bad guys). After seeing news footage of Robin (Dick) doing a triple somersault, Tim puts two and two together to come up with the hidden identities of the vigilante duo. After all, the circus ringleader had announced that Dick Grayson was the youngest person able to do such a stunt.

There are several continuities represented in these customs. There are figures from the regular DC universe (the classic Robin, the Nightwing and the Officer Dick figure). Then, there are figures directly taken from episodes of Batman: the Animated Series in all of its incarnations (it went through several names and one major design/style change). These include Young Dick Grayson, Young Dick Grayson of the Flying Graysons, Dick Grayson: Returns to Haley's Circus, Older Dick Grayson and Young Tim Drake. This storyline stays fairly close to the mainstream DC universe, but the differences that do occur are usually quite different. Then there are the stray bits from "back in the day" like the JLA Robin and Elseworlds bits like the Thrillkiller Robin.
